Rebecca Rivers, owner of Northern Light Yoga, has been practicing yoga
for more than 20 years. She began yoga to cultivate inner stillness and to
manage migraine headaches and neck pain resulting from scoliosis. In 2001 she
discovered Svaroopa®
yoga and in particular its value during pregnancy and
delivery. Impressed by how much her teacher knew about the body, Rebecca began
teacher training, and became a certified Svaroopa®
yoga teacher in 2007 and an
Embodyment Yoga therapist in 2005.
Along the way, Rebecca discovered the tremendously healing and
transformative powers of svaroopa,
the inner experience of bliss that characterizes this style of yoga. Rebecca
brings a variety of skills and experience to her teaching. She has been
teaching regular classes since 2004 and is registered with Yoga Alliance as a
teacher at the 500-hour level. She also draws on her background as a research
scientist with a Ph.D. in biology to bring an investigative approach to exploring
the body through yoga. She draws on her years of experience as a university
professor to communicate effectively and engagingly with her students. She also
brings a deep compassion to her teaching and therapy, borne out of her own
experiences of living with pain and her love of deeper practice. Svaroopa yoga, with Rebecca's gentle guidance, has led me to a path of self-awareness and self-care ... After each session with Rebecca, I feel relaxed, peaceful, and grounded, knowing that I have provided good things for my mind and body. -Cindy, Potsdam

You can take individual yoga or yoga therapy with Rebecca at Northern Light Yoga, or group classes that she teaches at the
Yoga Loft. She has completed additional training to deal with high-pain or other special needs clients. She particularly enjoys working with families, people looking to use yoga's therapeutic tools to manage their own health, and those who are looking to "dive deep" into all that yoga has to offer.
